A Tuesday evening fire destroyed a two-stall garage and caused moderate damage to a Northern Township home.

According to a press release from the Bemidji Fire Department:

The occupant of the home on the 3800 block of Elliot Road Northeast reported that the garage was on fire at 6:55 p.m. and that the fire was quickly spreading into the home.

Thirty-eight firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes and found the garage and home fully engulfed.

Firefighters contained the fire quickly and were able to prevent further spread of fire into the home, Fire Chief Dave Hoefer said in the release.

Two fire engines were used on scene and water was supplied by three tankers. Firefighters remained on scene for about three hours.

No one was injured.

The garage and its contents, which included a car, are considered a total loss. The home sustained moderate damage. The estimated dollar loss is $94,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Bemidji Fire Department and State Fire Marshal office, but no foul play is suspected.

Assisting at the scene were the Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami County Sheriff's office, Bemidji Ambulance Service, OtterTail Power Co. and American Red Cross.
