BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Fire Department responded to 174 calls for service in June, according to the monthly release from the department.


An estimated $93,750 in property loss was reported in June. For the year, the department estimates $2,156,820 worth of property has been saved and $347,677 have been reported as losses because of fires.

In June, four all-call pages were received, along with one sectional call. There was an average of 5.8 calls for service per day. In all, the department has responded to 1,013 calls for service in 2014.

June service calls included:

• Four building fires.

• 34 emergency medical calls.

• Seven motor vehicle crashes with injuries.

• One water rescue.

• Three gas leaks.

• 14 fire alarm responses.

• 93 airport standbys.

In addition, firefighters completed 286 hours of training in June, including rural water supply operations, building construction, fire extinguisher training, fire attack, fire hose and nozzle training, live fire training and search and rescue operations. The department also conducted 36 building inspections, two fire safety presentations, one fire safety house presentation, four fire station tours and issued 26 burning permits.
