Filing for city elections ended Tuesday, but Ward 1 incumbent Kevin Waldhausen, who previously had filed for re-election, withdrew from the election officially on Wednesday.

Per state statute, that prompts an extension of the filing period for that city ward.

Filing for Ward 1 will go until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Any Ward 1 resident interested in running for election may file for $5 at the city clerk's office at Bemidji City Hall.

Michael Meehlhause, a former co-president of the Bemidji State University Student Senate, filed for election to Ward 1.
