BEMIDJI – A local girl’s planned overseas trip to train with an Olympic figure-skating coach has been postponed.

Wren Warne-Jacobsen, 9, of Bemidji, had been scheduled to leave this week for Tartu, Estonia, to attend an international camp Jan. 3-10 with coach Alexei Mishin.

She and her family learned of the postponement hours before embarking on the journey. Benjamin Miller, Warne-Jacobsen’s coach from St. Paul who was scheduled to accompany her on the trip, received an email from Mishin stating he was unable to attend the camp due to an unexpected scheduling conflict with his student, 2006 Olympic champion, Evgeni Plushenko. Plushenko won his 10th Russian National title last week.

Warne-Jacobsen has been invited to study with Mishin later this spring. Plans to reschedule the trip are underway.

All contributions received by Warne-Jacobsen during a recent fundraising campaign are being held in an Edward Jones custodial account in her name for use on her spring trip.
