Fern Maxine (Peterson) Drown, 83, of Bagley, died Friday, March 13, 2009, at the Garden Place Extended Care Facility in Bagley.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bagley with the Rev. Lyle Twite officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley. Burial will be in the Nora Township Cemetery in rural Bagley.

She was born Dec. 5, 1925, to Arvid and Clara Peterson in Shelly, Minn. She attended schools in Badger, Minn., Gatzke, Minn., and Euclid, Minn., and graduated from Crookston High School in 1944. She attended Aaker's Business College and was trained in telegraphy and become a telegraph operator for the Great Northern Railroad.

While working for the Great Northern, she met Gordon Drown and married him Feb. 5, 1947, at Augusta Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, N.D.

They moved many places with the railroad but retired in Bagley.

She enjoyed gardening, quilt-making, bird watching, traveling and was an active member of Grace Free Lutheran Church. She helped work on the Bagley Centennial quilt and entered a lot of her handiwork in the Bagley Fair. She also enjoyed playing Chinese checkers, cards and dice games with her friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie (John) Quirarte of Tulsa, Okla.; sons, Paul (Debbie) Drown of Larimore, N.D., Rex (Debbie) Drown of O'Fallon, Ill., and Kelly (Marion) Drown of Tulsa; sisters, Genevieve Hervey of Bagley, Patience Hervey of East Grand Forks, Minn., and Lorraine Vanderweg of Crookston, Minn.; brothers, Gene (Ann) Peterson of Gatzke, Dawn Peterson of California, Forrest Peterson of California and Dale Peterson of Badger; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon in 2008; and brothers, Roy, Vernon and Larry.
