Ferdinand Henry Neft

Ferdinand H. Neft, 94, of Shooks, Minnesota, passed away at his home, Monday, January 28, 2013.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kelliher, MN with Fr. Raul Perez-Cobo officiating. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick’s Church from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2 with an 8 p.m. prayer service followed by Rosary and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Shooks, MN. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post# 470 of Kelliher. Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck, MN assisted the family with arrangements.

Active Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ward Singer, Bryan Singer, Christopher Singer, Jason Seitz, Greg Foley, Nathaniel Chase, Max Chase, Frank Neft, Jacob Neft, Nathan Daniels, Josh Neft, and Tim Neft. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of his granddaughters and great grandchildren.

He was born April 17, 1918 in Shooks, MN to Henry and Anna (Tilch) Neft. He attended school in Shooks. He entered the U.S. Army in 1940 and served with the 338th Infantry, Company K in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, and Rome-Arno campaigns during WWII. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tec 5 in July of 1945. He received an EAME Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Star Clusters. On April 2, 1945, he married Christine Parochka in Kelliher. They have made their home and farmed in Shooks since. He enjoyed reading and playing cards and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kelliher, a member of the National Farmers Organization, American Legion Post #470 of Kelliher and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by five daughters, Kathryn (Nick) Gerasimof of Cardington, Ohio, Margaret (Wes) Seitz of Tenstrike, MN, Jane (Alan) Foley of Bemidji, MN, Ann (Frank) Chase of Red Hook, NY, and Donna (Todd) Daniels of Duluth, MN; four sons, Andrew (Becky) Neft of Kelliher, MN, Lawrence (Audrey) Neft of Bemidji, MN, Joe (Sissy) Neft of Shooks and Al (Lori) Neft of Fargo, ND; 32 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sr. Olga Neft of Little Falls, MN and Ermaline (Eldor) Schlumpberger of New Ulm, MN; a sister-in-law, Anna Nistler of Shooks and a brother-in-law, Gregor Froelich of Ely, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Neft on May 28, 2011; his parents, Henry and Johanna Neft; his step-mother, Otillia; children, Agnes Neft, Kenneth Neft and four infant sons; four grandchildren and three sisters, Veronica Weidenborner, Louise Frenzel and Betty Frenzel.
