Fenson wins seventh national title at USA Curling Nationals
Bemidji's Pete Fenson won his seventh national title Saturday with a 6-5 extra-end victory over Tyler George of Duluth at the USA Curling National Championships at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D.
Fenson stole a point in the 11th end to prevail in a thrilling championship game. Fenson's teammates were Shawn Rojeski of Chisholm, Joe Polo of Duluth and Ryan Brunt of Bemidji. Polo is a former Bemidjian.
The Patti Lank rink of Lewiston, N.Y., parlayed a strong start into a 9-4 victory over Allison Pottinger to claim the women's title.
The Pottinger rink included Natalie Nicholson of Bemidji.
Pete Fenson of Bemidji will meet Tyler George of Duluth later Saturday for the men's championship.
Lank scored two in the first end and stole one in the second, then took a 5-1 lead with two in the fourth. It all but clinched the victory by scoring three in the sixth to go ahead 8-3.
