Federal fugitive arrested at Red Lake on drug charges

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp announced Wednesday afternoon that Omar Sharif Beasley, 32, was arrested Dec. 4 on the Red Lake Reservation on charges of possessing more than 2,000 pharmaceutical tablets.

Those prescription drugs included Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Diazepam. Beasley has been the subject of an ongoing investigation for the sale of pharmaceuticals on both the Leech Lake and Red Lake Reservations. He is known to reside in both Detroit, Mich., and Minneapolis and was wanted on a federal fugitive warrant out of Michigan.

Officers of the Red Lake Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service and FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force have been conducting the investigation and were involved with his arrest.
