Oak Hills alumna to present memoir

BEMIDJI — Candie Blankman, a 1975 graduate of Oak Hills Christian College, will have her memoir, “Forged By War: A Daughter Shaped by a World War II P.O.W. Story” on display from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Oak Hills Christian College fellowship center.

Blankman’s father, Tech Sgt. Kenneth Earl Davis, was a United States Army enlistee who was captured by Japanese troops during WWII.

Blankman will be giving a presentation at 3 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.

Mental illness support group to meet

BEMIDJI — Nightlights, a support group for anyone who has a loved one with mental illness will host its monthly meeting at 7 p.m., Monday  in the Kateri Room at St. Philip’s Church at Seventh Street and Beltrami Avenue in Bemidji.

Father Don Braukmann from St. Philip’s Church will be available to answer questions. Please call (218) 444-4262 with questions.

40 days for life campaign set

BEMIDJI — The next 40 Days for Life nationwide prayer campaign begins Sept. 25 and ends Nov. 3.

The first local planning meeting will take place 6:30 p.m. July 1 at Mount Zion Church, 414 Lincoln Ave. SE.

The campaign focuses on pro-life, with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting and peaceful vigil to end abortion in America, organizers said.

40 Days for Life is non-denominational and representative from area churches and those involved in last year’s campaign are encouraged to attend.
