New pastor at Trinity Lutheran

BEMIDJI -- Lewis Polzin was ordained and installed as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church of Bemidji on Aug. 11.

Pastor Lewis attended Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Mich., and graduated with a degree in family life, a church ministry degree. He later attended Miami University in Ohio, receiving his master's degree in family and child studies in 2006.

He then enrolled at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 2009 and served his vicarage, a pastoral internship, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Troy, Mo., graduating this past May.

Pastor installation for Kelliher, Blackduck

BLACKDUCK-- An installment of Pastor Denise Anne Fossen will take place at the regular worship services Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church of Blackduck and Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Kelliher.

Regular worship service is 8:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church and 10:45 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

Fossen is a recent graduate with a Master of Divinity of Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.

A reception will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church. The reception menu will include smoked chicken, corn on the cob, potatoes and assorted fresh vegetables.

Final concert for recital series

BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji Area Church Musicians Summer Recital Series will hold its final concert at noon Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, 900 Bemidji Ave.

The concert will feature Sarah Carlson, organ, who will be joined by special guests Melanie Hanson, violin, Michael Hanson, saxophone, and Jon Romer, Native American flute.

A freewill offering will be accepted for the concert and a luncheon will follow.

Baptist church to host Carnival Night

BEMIDJI -- Bemidji Baptist Church will hold Carnival Night at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 2130 Paul Bunyan Dr. SE.

Free food, games, a bounce house and prizes will all be available.

Church to provide school supplies

BEMIDJI -- St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church will provide free school supplies to those in need 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the church, 1800 Irvine Ave.

The supplies will be given on a first come, first serve basis.

25th annual roast beef dinner set

BEMIDJI -- The 25th Annual Roast Beef Dinner is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Minnesota Ave.

The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and homemade pies.

Take out is available and tickets can be purchased from church members.

"Financial Peace University" class offered

BEMIDJI-- A Dave Ramsey "Financial Peace University" class series will begin 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the First Assembly of God church, 1015 4th St. SW.

The class will meet every Tuesday for nine weeks.
