Eveleth man struck, killed by train

EVELETH, Minn. -- A 38-year-old Eveleth man was struck and killed by a train early Sunday morning in Mountain Iron.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident happened just before 3 a.m. Canadian National railroad contacted authorities to report that a southbound train had struck a person who was on the tracks at the south end of CN’s property along Mountain Iron Drive. That’s near U.S. Highway 53 and the boundary between Mountain Iron and Virginia.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family.

The incident remains under investigation.
