Ethlyn D. Hermanson

Ethlyn D. Hermanson, 91, of Gaylord, Minnesota and formerly of Walker and Laporte, passed away Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.

Ethlyn was born April 4, 1921 in Moose Township near Badger, Minnesota to Dewey and Manda (Jackson) Melby. Her family then moved to Canada where they spent the next 24 years prior to moving back to Greenbush, Minnesota. She married Kenneth B. Hermanson in Greenbush on March 28, 1948. They lived in Underwood, North Dakota and then moved to a farm near Shevlin. In 1971 they moved to Laporte where she remained a part of the community until moving to Walker in 2002. Ethlyn lived at Highland Apartments, Grandma Jo's, and May Creek until moving to Gaylord to be near family. During her years in Laporte Ethlyn worked as a janitor at the Laporte School, was a member of the Laporte Lions, the Laporte City Council, and was a Senior Nutrition Administrator. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte.

Ethlyn enjoyed her flower gardens, feeding the birds, playing bingo, baking, canning, and sharing her gift of hospitality. She took pride in her Canadian roots and her Norwegian heritage. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her willingness to help others, and her strength of character. Her presence as a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother will be missed.

Ethlyn is survived by her daughters; Marlene (Wilbert) Essig, Mary (Kurt) Honer, grandchildren; Alexis (Andy) Hadrava, Kalin (Krista) Honer, Kalli (Andy) Hasse, Amanda (Drew) Koloc, great grandchildren; Avery, Justin, Zackary, Gabriella, Greyson, Ava, Analee, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1988, brothers; Millard, Ivan, Leslie, infant brother Elreyn, and her sister Thora.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte with Rev. Dave Smith officiating. Visitation will be Thursday evening, December 6th from 5-8 pm at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakeport Cemetery.
