Ethel Vivian Fairbanks, 87, of Bemidji, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Autumn Hills Care Home in Bemidji.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji with the Rev. Tim Pomp officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Silver Creek Cemetery in Clearbrook under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be her friends and caretakers from Autumn Hills.
She was born Sept. 4, 1921, to Simon and Marie (Skime) Fairbanks in Red Lake Agency. Her father died in 1923. The family continued to live in Red Lake, where they owned and operated a grocery store. When her mother died in 1958, Ethel moved to Bemidji. She was a rural paper carrier for the Pioneer for 16 years.
She loved sports, especially baseball. She enjoyed powwows, visiting friends and relatives, going to the casino and crocheting.
She is survived by her special friend, Ronald (Agnes) Skime of Bemidji; nieces and nephews; and her friends at Autumn Hills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Viola and Eunice; and a brother, Ernest "Bud" Fairbanks.
