Erickson, Sigana are national outstanding Girl Scout leaders
Carla Erickson and Janice Sigana were recently honored as recipients of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America National Outstanding Leader award.
They have co-led a large group of girls at Northern Elementary School for the past five years. Together, they have mentored girls and shared their enthusiasm, facilitating strong leadership skills and "can-do" attitudes.
As troop leaders they have taken their troop on overnight trips to Camp Shingobee near Walker, tapped trees for sap and made maple syrup, and visited water parks. From Halloween costume parties, creations at Glazed and Amused, going bowling, visiting a local pumpkin patch, to earning the cooking badge by running their own "café," the leaders' creativity has kept the girls interested in Girl Scouts.
Their girls took part in the Tiny Tots Expo, Holiday Gifts for Kids and Bemidji's Take Back the Night.
Erickson and Sigana have led Bemidji's Girl Scout Day Camp, organized events for different age levels and volunteered at numerous programs.
