Emergency road repair is scheduled for Thursday on state Highway 34 west of Walker. The temporary detour will be in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be conducting an emergency replacement of a centerline culvert under a section of state Highway 34 approximately 3.5 miles west of Walker Thursday.
To accommodate the repair, a detour will be in effect beginning at 6 a.m. with work expected to be complete by 6 p.m. Traffic will be detoured from Highway 34 in Walker to state Highway 371 north, to Highway 200 north, south on Highway 64 and back to Highway 34. Eastbound traffic to Walker on Highway 34 will be directed to the same route in reverse.
Following installation of the new culvert, motorists will encounter a gravel surface with reduced speed until the roadway can be paved over which is not expected to be done for several weeks.
Drivers are asked to be especially cautious when approaching this area.
