MINNEAPOLIS - James Ellisor, who helped lead the Bemidji State University men's basketball team to the NSIC regular season championship this winter, said Wednesday's pre-draft tryout with the Timberwolves went very well.

"There were six players, including me, and we did many one-on-one drills and many shooting drills," Ellisor, who was named the NCAA II National Player of the Year, said.

"I felt pretty good about how things went. I played hard and did well. Hopefully, if I am able to attend any more tryouts like this in the future, I'll be able to use what I learned from this one."

On hand to watch and evaluate Ellisor and the five other players were agents and scouts representing the NBA and teams from other professional leagues, including the European league.

"I learned that I need to get stronger, work on my guard skills and adjust to the NBA 3-point line," Ellisor said. "I felt myself struggling with the 3-point line."

Following Wednesday's tryout Ellisor headed back home to Arizona. He hopes to participate in a few more tryouts, including sessions hosted by the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns, and will continue to be in contact with scouts representing teams which play in Europe.

"This tryout was a good start and we'll see what happens from here," he said. "I wanted to come in and play my heart out. I wanted to show the scouts and general managers my skill level and show them that I can play the 2-guard position.

"And I think I did that," he added.
