Ellisor leads BSU to road win

The Bemidji State men's basketball team opened its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Sun Conference road schedule with a 92-86 win over Northern State Friday night at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

The Beavers (5-4 2-3 NSIC) were boosted by seven early points from sophomore forward Mason Walters and held a 15-5 lead with 11:48 left in the first half.

Northern State dominated the remainder of the half, outscoring Bemidji State 28-13 to take a five-point lead entering the break.

The Beavers came out firing in the second half and scored 36 points in the first nine minutes of the second half to go up 64-60.

The Wolves answered with a 6-0 run over the following four minutes. The Beavers trailed by two with 7:34 remaining.

BSU regained the lead and showed why they are the nation's best at the free throw line as they hung on for the victory. The Beavers scored 34 points from the charity stripe with a respectable 77 percent.

Junior forward James Ellisor lead the Beavers high-powered offense with a game-high 27 points and six rebounds.

Walters, sophomore guard Lance Rongstad, senior forward Pat Cassidy, and freshman guard Jake Schalow all finished in double figures.

Junior guard Bryce Tesdahl added seven points to go with his game-high 11 assists.

Bemidji State will return to action tomorrow night at 8 p.m. when the squad travels to Bismark, North Dakota to face University of Mary.
