Ella Owen-Keyes, 95, of Bemidji and formerly of Hines, died on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck with Pastor Dan Heath officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck under the direction of Cease Funeral Home of Blackduck.
She was born May 9, 1917 in Bemidji, MN to Andrew and Marie (Andersen) Lokken. She attended school in Hagali Township in Beltrami County and married Elmer Owen January 14, 1935 in Bemidji, MN. They lived in Hines, MN until the time of her husband's death. After she was widowed, she moved to Texas where she met Gerald Keyes. The couple married in Mission, Texas on January 21, 1995. They divided their time between Texas, Kansas and Minnesota. She spent the last year at Havenwood in Bemidji.
She enjoyed sewing and needle work, baking, flower gardening, traveling, walking, dancing, golfing, bowling, playing cards and watch the Twins games. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an active member in the First Lutheran Church in Hines, MN.
She is survived by four daughters, Donna (Kenneth) Hendrickson of Hines, Sally Johnson of Blackduck and Marylou Owen and Kathleen (Robert) Matthew, both of St. Louis Park; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Owen, on Dec. 8, 1986; her second husband, Gerald Keyes, on April 16, 2008; her parents, Andrew and Marie Lokken; siblings, Albert Lokken, Bertha Hanson, Agnus Tolbert, Edna Hendricks and her twin, Esther Gulseth; a daughter, Marilyn Owen; son-in-law, Bud Johnson and a grandson, Michael Hunsberger.
