BEMIDJI – The Bemidji Elks Club No. 1052 has donated $250 to the Boys and Girls Club of the Bemidji Area as part of its mission to “invest in our community through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.”

“We are appreciative of the support and work the Boys and Girls Club does in our community,” said Cheryl Gesell, Elks secretary. “What a great organization.”

“The mission of the Elks and mission of the Club align to positively serve children in our community. Their support helps us with our ‘SMART moves’ program,” said Andrea Ohnstad, Boys and Girls Club executive director. “SMART Moves is a nationally acclaimed comprehensive prevention program that helps young people resist alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, as well as premature sexual activity. SMART Moves features engaging, interactive, small-group activities that increase participants’ peer support, enhance their life skills, build their resiliency and strengthen their leadership skills.”
