Elks Club thanked for honoring veterans
Well, another Veterans Day has come and gone. I’ve never observed the day as it seems to have evolved into a paid holiday for government and bank workers, few of whom in this day and age are veterans.
Seeing an ad in the paper for a celebration at the Elks Club, I asked my wife if she’d like to attend with me. She, in fact, seemed eager to go and insisted that I wear my USS Enterprise cap.
What we found was a quiet, low-key event, elegant in its simplicity and sponsored by folks who were sincere in their desire to honor veterans. I came away feeling really good about it.
