Elementary Phy Ed in good hands
There are six new teachers at Blackduck Schools this year - and so far you have been introduced to five of them. The sixth is a hometown boy and 2005 graduate of Blackduck High School who has returned to his alma mater to become the Physical Education Teacher for grades kindergarten through six.
John "Cody" Gross, is the son of John and Debbie Gross and Grandson of Donald and Dorothy Gross and Donald and Mary Ferdig, as well as the fiancée of BHS grad, Jenna McKean. With several generations of Blackduck graduates in the family, we know we can expect great things from Cody - and his influence is already obvious in the excitement for phy. ed. that is running rampant through the elementary school!
Before beginning his teaching job, Cody coached junior high baseball in Blackduck and also worked at Northland Timber Company. He says that he's very happy to be teaching in the place where he has lived his entire life. He graduated from Bemidji State University this past spring, but spent the last several years coaching and volunteering for a variety of sporting activities in Blackduck.
Mr. Gross's favorite school memory is having the opportunity to play baseball under Mark Johnson, and being approached by a teacher who encouraged him to apply to college. Without that encouragement, Cody says he may not have gone to college at all and now here he is: teaching and encouraging the next generation himself!
In his spare time, Cody likes to stay active and plays baseball, softball, and works out. He also enjoys hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He says that he is very excited to start his first year of teaching at Blackduck Elementary and wants to thank the staff for welcoming him back to Blackduck.
