The Mexican restaurant, located on the south end of Bemidji at 801 Washington Ave. S., has closed for the winter, said owner David Mendoza.

“Summer is pretty good, but winter is too slow,” said Mendoza, when reached by telephone at his other Bemidji restaurant, Mi Rancho.
Mendoza owns both Mexican restaurants. He first opened Mi Rancho in 2009 and opened El Mariachi a year later in the building that previously housed the former Bluewater Bait store.
Mi Rancho, which opened in 2009, will remain open all winter, Mendoza said.
He said El Mariachi has good business in the summer because of its outdoor deck.
This will be the first year the business closes for the winter, Mendoza said. He tried keeping it open for the season last winter but will not do so this year.
El Mariachi will reopen in the spring. No date has been set. Mendoza said he will wait and see how things are going in 2013.
