Eide is accused of causing the July 7, 2006, motor vehicle accident in which Peggy Hook, 52, of Bemidji, was seriously injured.

According to the criminal complaint, Eide had smoked marijuana about 20 minutes prior to the accident.

Hook was driving east on 15th Street Northwest and had a green light when Eide, driving south on Irvine Avenue Northwest, ran a red light and Hook's motorcycle struck the passenger side of Eide's 1995 Dodge Intrepid, the complaint said.

Officers with the Bemidji Police Department arrived on the scene and found Hook unconscious with a serious injury to the back of her head, the complaint said. She was taken to North Country Regional Hospital and then flown to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.

Eide told police he was not paying attention and had reached down to adjust the air-conditioning, the complaint said.

Officers found marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Eide, the complaint said. A sample of his blood was sent to a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension lab, which determined that THC - the psychoactive substance found in marijuana - was in his system, the complaint said.

Hook spent several weeks in the hospital as a result of the crash, the complaint said.
