Feb. 13, 1948-April 9, 2008
Edward Kent, Sr., 60, of Waubun, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ed was born the son of Richard and Marie (Gaynor) Kent on Feb. 13, 1948 in Detroit Lakes. Growing up in the Ogema area, he attended school in Waubun and graduated with the class of 1967. Upon graduation, he moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked at Grover's Service Station for many years. On April 15, 1972 Edward married Barb Bevins at Holy Rosary Church in Detroit Lakes.
In the late 1970s, Ed and Barb moved to a farm near Ogema, where they raised dairy cattle for several years. In the early 1980s they purchased a farm southeast of Waubun, where they had resided since. For the past 12 years, Ed was employed by the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen as a banquet captain.
A man full of life and laughter, Ed was known for his keen sense of humor. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and enjoyed the hours spent hunting deer with a bow. Ed looked forward to spending time with his friends and family and was always up for a game of cards. He was a member of Pheasant's Forever and held memberships with several area hunting clubs.
Ed is lovingly survived by his wife, Barb Kent of Waubun; two daughters, Nicole Kent and Jody Kent, both of Waubun; two sons, Edward Jr. (Pam) Kent of Waubun and Leslie (Kelly) Kent of Mahnomen; his mother, Marie Kent of Waubun; four brothers, Richard (Sue) Kent and Vincent (Melissa) Kent, both of Waubun, Dean (Kathy) Kent of Annandale, Minn., and Duane Kent of Bagley; four sisters, Mary (Don) Neitzke of Wahpeton, N.D., Joyce (Larry) Morrison of Detroit Lakes, Yvonne (Joe) Walsh of Fridley, Minn., and Wanda (Dave) Riedberger of Rockford, Minn.; as well as nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ed in death were his father, Richard; three brothers; a sister and a niece, Theresa.
A mass of Christian burial took place on Saturday, April 12, at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, with the Rev. Mitch Byeck officiating. Pallbearers were Alex Kent, Anthony Ritterman, James Ritterman, Randy Kent, John Struthers and Jeremy Vanderplaats. Honorary bearers were James Struthers, Stacy Bevins, his brothers, sisters and grandchildren.
