Edward "Ed" Risland, 92, of Bemidji, MN, died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Neilson Place, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

Honorary bearers will be Joel Johnson and Richard Johnson.

Urn bearers will be his grandchildren, Tony Johnson, Andy Risland, Joe Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Katie Mischke.

Edward Owen Risland was born December 6, 1921 in Bemidji to Olaf and Sophia (Anderson) Risland. He grew up in Bemidji and attended Sunnyside and Cloverleaf Elementary Schools. He worked in the CCC Camps and then was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. Ed received the America Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and Good Conduct Medal. While in the Army, he married Myrtle Sletten on December 8, 1943 in Bemidji. Ed worked as a self employed contractor for 70 years. He never officially retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Risland of Bemidji; daughters, Betty Jean (Richard) Johnson of Champlin and Bonnie (Joel) Johnson of Bemidji; son, Robert O. (Diane) Risland of Bemidji; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, Paige, Janna, Abby, Johie, Auzie, Jessica, Samantha, Emma, Lucy and Jack; brother, Stanley Risland of Plains, MT; sisters, Dorothy Cookston of Bremerton, WA, Evelyn Williams of Salem, OR and Marlyce Wallace of Vallejo, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sophia and Olaf Risland; brothers, Arvid, Melvin, Irven, Arnold and Palmer; sisters, Ruth Borden and Margaret Clark and grandson, Todd Johnson.
