Bemidji student wins media award

BEMIDJI – St. Cloud State University’s campus television station earned five Broadcast Education Association (BEA) media arts awards and will be honored in an April ceremony in Las Vegas, NV.
Earning an honorable mention in the Studio Video category is Chelsea Johnson of Bemidji. Johnson, a junior, was named in the award for “Husky Mag,” a sports highlights and features show. Johnson is general manager at UTVS.

Math competition was a success
BEMIDJI – Thief River Community College hosted a Mathcounts competition for middle school students on Feb. 15.
There were 67 students participating from 11 schools. Trophies for top individuals and teams were awarded and several students earned trips to the state competition on March 15-16. Winners of the state competition advance to Washington in May.
Individual winners include: Ty Allen from the Bemidji Middle School in 10th place, Amber Youngren from St. Phillips in ninth, Logan Nelson of Fertile-Beltrami in eighth, Bryce Wadholm of Tri-County in seventh, Sage Hovet of Bemidji Middle School in sixth, Carter Mosher of Fertile-Beltrami in fifth, Elizabeth Thompson of Bemidji Middle school in fourth, Damian Parr of Fertile-Beltrami in third, Liam Linden of Franklin Middle School in second, Peter Zaviska of Franklin Middle School in 1st.
The following team trophies were awarded: second place small and large schools were Kittson Central and Bemidji Middle School; first place small and large schools were Fertile-Beltrami and Franklin Middle School.
Bemidji Middle School had the third highest overall score.
