Edna Nei, 81, of Bemidji, MN, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.

Edna Marie Peterson was born December 19, 1932 in Bemidji, MN. She attended Solway Elementary School and Bemidji High School. Edna met the love of her life "the cute pop salesman" when working as a waitress. They married five months later on January 31, 1953 in Bemidji. Gordon and Edna enjoyed 53 years of marriage together. Edna supported Gordy in the family business, Nei Bottling while raising 8 kids and she was a wonderful homemaker and party planner. She was a fabulous cook, loved trying new recipes and no one ever left her home hungry or without leftovers. She was a talented gardener and looked forward to digging in the dirt every spring. Her flower gardens brought beauty and joy to all. They lived in Bemidji and wintered in Bullhead, AZ for 20 years. She was a member of St. Philips Catholic Church, a member of the church circle and a member of Bridge Club for about 50 years and was an excellent bridge player. Moms final words were "its o.k. to be sad, but dont be sad long". She loved the time she got to spend with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her family. They meant the world to her.

She is survived by her children, Debra (Alan) Adams of Madison, SD, Janet (Gary) Christiansen of Bemidji, Jeffrey (Lori) Nei of Bemidji, Linda (Dave) Winans of Bemidji, Bradley (Linda) Nei of Bemidji, Michael (Danae) Nei of Bemidji, Mary (Kevin) Mattison of Bemidji and Gregory (Kim) Nei of Bemidji; 20 grandchildren;18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Herman Peterson of Solway and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene (Jan) Nei of Prior Lake, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Gordon Nei.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Philips Catholic Church.
