Edna Gertrude Giese, 96, of Northome, died Oct. 22, 2010 at the Northome HealthCare Center in Northome.
Funeral services were held Oct. 26 at Hope Lutheran Church in Northome with the Rev. Roy Johnson officiating. Burial was in Mizpah Cemetery in Mizpah. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Jay Fraley, Brady Bloom, Lee Fraley, Jeff Chaffin, Dean Fraley and Eric Fraley.
She was born Nov. 28, 1913, at Ocheyedan, IA to Henry and Gesina (Brockshus) Mohr. She married Elmer Giese Dec. 21, 1931, at Wood Lake. They made their home at Wood Lake where they farmed. In 1946 they moved to Northome where they operated Elmer's Resort on Island Lake until 1956 when they moved to Granite Falls.
She was an excellent homemaker, loved to bake and cook and always had beautiful flower gardens. She cooked at the Granite Falls Hospital for many years.
After she retired, they spent several summers at Bender's Resort at Island Lake where she cooked for their guests. They returned to Northome in 1984. She had resided at the Northome HealthCare Center since 2000.
She was an active member in church and especially enjoyed Bible studies and listening to the Christian radio station.
She is survived by four daughters: Marlys Fraley-Hanson of Mizpah, LaVila (Harlan) Fraley of Northome, Betty (Vernon) Bloom of Northome and Lucy (Ronald) Schuster of Mizpah; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer Giese in 1990; a grandson, Joel Fraley in 1998; three brothers and two sisters.
