Economy motivating voters in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The majority of Minnesotans who were asked say the economy and jobs are the primary issues that will drive their vote on election day.

A Star Tribune Minnesota pollshows 48 percent of likely voters say those issues are at the top of their minds this campaign season. Coming in a distant second are taxes, government spending and the national debt at 23 percent.

The poll of 800 likely voters also shows President Obama garnering 48 percent of the vote compared to 40 percent for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Seven percent of those polled are undecided and 5 percent plan to cast their vote for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.

The poll, conducted Sept. 17 to 19, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
