East Grand holds Lumberjacks to 2-2 tie

The Bemidji High boys soccer team saw its flickering Lakes to Prairie title hopes fade Monday when it was held to a 2-2 overtime tie by East Grand Forks.

It left the Jacks at 6-1-2 in league play with 16 points. Detroit Lakes has 14 with two games remaining, each two point contests. A Laker sweep would give DL the title, A tie would also give DL the crown since it went1-0-1 against Bemidji.

In their first meeting, Bemidji spotted East Side a 3-9 lead before rallying for the final four goals to win.

Monday Bemidji spotted the Green Wave a 2-0 lead in the second period before battling back to tie.

Bemidji had ample chances to win but was unable to connect again.

It held a slim 26-21 shots edge and an 11-8 edge on shots on goal. But it had by far the higher percentage shots all day.,

East Side made the best of its two great opportunities to score twice

Zach Thorfinson had both.

The first came at the 20:55 mark on 20 yarder from the center of the box from a left corner kick.

His second came at 54:48 when he headed home another corner kick at the right corner from Jake Greenwood's corner kick.

It took Bemidji only 28 seconds to get this one back.

East Side was assessed a penalty in the box an drew a yellow card

Rylee Curb gained the penalty kick and drilled it home.

Two minutes later he took a long lead pass from Kyle Fodness, beat the defense and hit again from the left side.

With 23 minutes left to play, it seemed as if Bemidji would win for sure.,

But despite applying steady pressure, it was unable to find the goal again.

Kevin Larson ended with six saves, two in the overtime. Josh Regorrah had nine, one in the extra session.

The result left Bemidji at 10-4-2 overall and East Side at 2-11.

It was much the same story for the JV which won 2-0 despite a huge 30-3 shots bulge.

Dillon Eichstadt scored the first at the 16 minute mark and assisted Sebastian Voitel with the second at 74 minutes.

Carl Graefe made three stops, .all in the first half. East Side kicked aside 28.

The JV stands at 10-3-3.
