Earl Frank Lundeen, 87 of Bemidji, MN died Friday, November 29, 2013 at St. Cloud VA Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be at 5:00 pm Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bemidji, MN with Rev. Mark Kindem officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Earl was born December 30, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN the son of Frank and Lillian (Nanfeldt) Lundeen. He was raised and educated in Minneapolis; He joined the Marine Corps when he was 17 in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theater. The night he was supposed to be graduating from high school, he was in Guadacanal, in a foxhole in a rainstorm. He wondered "What am I doing here?" His last engagement of war was Iwo Jima in 1945. He served with the US Marines from 1943-1946 and was in the active Marine Reserves from 1946-1951 with the rank of Sergeant. He worked as a foreman for Downtown Chevrolet from 1946-1950. He went to Plumber school and became a plumber. He started his own plumbing supply business in St. Hilaire, MN and later moved it to Bemidji. He married Lenore "Lee" Anderson on January 24, 1951. He worked for 27 years at Bemidji State University as a plumber. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, Marine Corp and the Eagles. He was a volunteer for both the Legion and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting at the Gun Club with his son. He also used to make and fly radio-controlled airplanes.
He is survived by his son Charles (Ginny) Lundeen; granddaughter Crystal (Shawn) Ludwig and grandson Josh (Amber) Lundeen and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
