DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A judge has sentenced a Duluth funeral home director to 90 days in jail or a correctional center for a 2009 crash that killed two people.

Daniel Dougherty was taken into custody at the close of his sentencing hearing Tuesday. At the request of his attorney, Dougherty will serve his time at the Northeast Regional Correctional Center.

Judge Heather Sweetland says Dougherty could be released in 60 days with good behavior.

Last month a jury found Dougherty guilty of careless driving and failure to obey a traffic device in the March 15, 2009, crash that killed Timothy Schlies and Hans Warren.

The Duluth News Tribune reports the sentence followed emotional readings of victim-impact statements by family members.
