DULUTH -- A fire overnight in a Duluth home with five apartments caused about $100,000 in damage

No people were injured, but a cat died in the fire.

The Duluth Fire Department was called to the three-story home at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters discovered a corner of a porch on fire that had spread up to the third level. A search for any tenants remaining in the building was met with heavy smoke and “significant fire” on the second and third floors, Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Bushey said.

The most severe damage occurred on the front porch, a second-story apartment, and a third-floor attic space. Smoke and water damage was found throughout the home.

A total of 27 firefighters responded and were on the scene for about three hours. The tenants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
