Pete was born May 13, 1931 in Mohall, North Dakota to Peter and Dorthea (Mueller) Peterson. The family moved to Hornet Township in rural Blackduck when Pete was 2 months old. He attended Murray School in Hornet Township then attended Blackduck High School for two years. He was in the US Army from 1950-52. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked at Hanna Mining Co. in 1953. He married Cedelia M. Murray on June 7, 1954 in Blackduck, MN. He went to work for Cleveland-Cliffs Co. from 1962 and in 1967, the family moved to Superior, WI. where he worked until 1980. He worked on oil rigs and on the Great Lakes from 1980-86. They moved to Pensacola, FL in 1983 before he went to work for Bethlehem Steel Co. in 1986. They moved back to Blackduck that same year. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1996.

He loved cooking and baking, reading, walking in to the woods until he was unable to, telling stories about his life and loved music. He enjoyed playing the piano, organ and accordion. He used to line his children up on the staircase while playing the organ. He and the children would sing Christmas songs and a personal favorite, "You Are My Sunshine."

Pete was a member of the Blackduck American Legion where he enjoyed preparing meals. He also enjoyed cutting firewood and repairing furniture. He never liked to talk about the special awards he received because he was a private person when it came to his achievements. Even though he worked away from home, he always made sure he spent quality time with his children, by reading to them, playing tickle time or coming up the stairs making noises so his kids would laugh. Those memories will always bring joy and laughter to the hearts of his family.
