Duane David Flagstad, 71, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.
He was born Feb. 26, 1937 and raised on the family farm in Colfax Township north of Wyndmere, N.D. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, graduating in 1959 with degrees in business education and psychology; he later received a Masters of Arts degree in public school administration from North Dakota State University.
He taught high school business education in Evansville and Detroit Lakes and was the high school principal in Welcome and Belgrade. He and his wife, Jeanne, retired to the lake in Park Rapids in 1996 and moved to Alexandria in 2006.
He is survived by wife; children: Brian (Kim), of Hinckley, and Lynn (Amy Finken), of St Paul; four grandchildren; two brothers: LeRoy (Val), of Rapid City, S.D. and Gary, of Wyndmere, N.D.; and a sister Shirley Skoglund, of Lake Norden, S.D.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alpha; a stepmother Mabel; and brother-in-law Elly Skoglund.
Memorial service: Friday, Feb. 27 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Memorials are preferred to Second Harvest Heartland food shelf or to the American Cancer Society.
