Dorothy I. (Ferrie) Tjolsen, 89, of Bagley died Friday, June 14, 2013 at The Garden Place, Bagley, MN.

Funeral services will be held at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel Monday, June 17, 2013 at Bagley, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery, Bagley, MN.

Dorothy I. (Ferrie) Tjolsen was born July 18, 1923 the daughter of John and Cora (Benjamin) Ferrie at McCanna N. D. At the age of 8, she moved with her family to a farm south of Bagley.

She attended rural schools until graduating from Bagley High School in 1940.

She attended and graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in Education.

On June 29, 1950, Dorothy married Robert “Bob” Tjolsen at Bagley, MN and they moved to a farm north of Shevlin where they farmed together for many years. Dorothy liked living on the farm. She wasn’t afraid of the hard work and enjoyed raising her sheep. Dorothy taught school at several rural schools in Clearwater County but finished her career as a kindergarten teacher at Clearbrook Public Schools. After 40 years of teaching, she took an early retirement to care for her husband Bob. After several years, Bob’s MS became much worse and he went to live at Greensview Nursing Home in Bagley. In 1987, Dorothy left the farm and moved to Bagley. Bob passed away October 27, 1993.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, traveling, and her Tuesday afternoon card games with her friends. She suffered from Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma which eventually left her blind. She moved to The Garden Place Assisted Living Facility in 2011.

She is survived by her sister-in-law – Dorthea Tjolsen, numerous nieces, nephews and her cat Ally.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, brothers Gardie, Ray, Ken and sister Roxey Hulick.
