Dorothy Adeline (Drouillard) Howard, 97 years old, of Cass Lake, wife of Simon E. Howard, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at her home of natural causes associated with dementia.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the St. Peters Episcopal Church in Cass Lake with Revs. Mark Olson and George Ross officiating. A wake will begin on Sunday evening, February 9 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cass Lake and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be at the Prince of Peace Cemetery in Cass Lake under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake.
Dorothy was born November 2, 1916 in the Mission area of Cass Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of James and Nancy (Taylor) Drouillard. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1934. She lived most of her life in the area except for during WWII when her husband served our country.
Dorothy was a long time participant of the Ojibwa Singers, traveling with them across three reservations to sing. The Singers came regularly to visit Dorothy in her declining health.
Dorothy Worked for 20 years for the Cass Lake Public Health Service and retired over 30 years ago.
Dorothy loved the Vikings, the Twins, traveling, reading, playing bingo, listening to all kinds of music, going to powwows and would happily dance at Elder Events. She was an active member of the Cass Lake Episcopal Church.
She is survived by: children, Diane Polaco, Gary Howard, Elaine Fleming, and Joanne Mulbah; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Simon Howard; children, Simon Jr., Simone, Kenneth and Michael; her granddaughter Laney; and her great-granddaughter Paige.
Active Casketbearers will be Shea Fleming, Kalvin Howard, Sr., Michael Howard, Jr., Dusty Kolkin, Kristopher Kolkin, Howard Jones and Christopher Ley.
