Doris Sovde, 89, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, June 20, 2014 at A Touch of Home, Bemidji.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Linnea Papke-Larson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 30, 2014 in Zion Cemetery, Oklee, MN.
Doris Marie Sovde was born February 1, 1925 in Webster, SD to Olof and Alma (Froemke) Skatvold. She attended school in Oklee, MN. She married Lowell Sovde on July 12, 1942 in Plummer, MN. She raised 4 children in Oklee and worked various small jobs. She was a bookkeeper for Sovde and Son Grocery Store in Oklee. She later became a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Oklee. After retirement they moved to their favorite place on earth, Spring Steel Island in Warroad, MN. Doris also spent a number of winters in Texas and Arizona to enjoy the warm weather. She was very active in her church and community and had a strong affection for Oklee and the wonderful people.
She is survived by sons, David (Cynthia) Sovde of Bemidji and Leigh (Deborah) Sovde of Bemidji; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Sundrud of Bemidji; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and sister, Phyllis Parsons of Edina, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell; children, Jeanne Bergstrom and Deborah Sovde and brother, Merle Skatvold.
