Doris Parks, 84, of Solway, MN, passed away, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Havenwood Care Center surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Solway Bible Chapel, with Pastor Brad Spaulding officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Jones Township Cemetery, Beltrami County, Minnesota.
Doris Elsie (Ekre) Parks was born to Even & Grace (Thorson) Ekre on July 26, 1928 in Shevlin, MN. She attended Shevlin school and then Bagley High School. During the war she worked at the poor farm in Hillsboro, ND cooking and cleaning as a teenager. She married Verne Parks on April 11, 1947 in Shevlin. The passion of her life was raising her 7 children. She worked at the Super Two Store in Solway for many years. As a farm wife for many years, she loved animals, especially her dogs and horses. Her baking and cooking skills were loved by her family, friends and many strangers. She had roll patrol, a gathering of family and friends for coffee and homemade rolls. A tradition she established and continued every Saturday for many years until her health prevented her from baking.
She is survived by her husband, of 66 years, Verne; children, Verne LeRoy (Janet) of Solway, Steve (Shelly) of Osseo, Kathy (Butch) Boe of Bagley, Cindy (Tim) Lewis of Pinewood and Scott (Holly) Parks of Monument, CO; 26 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; brothers, Theodore Sonny Ekre of Shevlin and David (Margie) Ekre of Beach, ND and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Dwight in 2000 and William in 2004; infant grandson, Steven and sister, Evelyn Thompson.
