Construction planned to start early in 2012
A 120-room Country Inn and Suites, along with an attached restaurant, will become the newest tenants of Bemidji's south shore development.
Construction on the project, which will be attached to the Sanford Center's Neilson Convention and Conference Center, is expected to begin early next year. The restaurant has not been named.
The project is planned to be complete by the end of 2012, according to a news release issue this afternoon by Bemidji City Manager John Chattin.
The release said Snyder & Associates accepted a proposal by the Bemidji Economic Development Authority to build the project.
The development group is a joint venture comprised of Snyder & Associates (Hotel Group), Bay Ridge Management and Amcon Construction, all headquartered in the greater Twin Cities area.
According to the news release:
Snyder Hotels and its president, Tripp Snyder, began developing, owning and operating hotels in 1981.
Most hotels developed by Snyder are in the Upper Midwest, primarily in Minnesota and the Dakotas.
Bay Ridge Management will operate the new hotel once it is completed.
Amcon Construction has built numerous properties nationwide, including schools, municipal buildings, healthcare facilities, office buildings, retail properties, industrial properties, multi family apartments and condominiums, and senior housing. In addition, they have built numerous restaurant and hotel properties, including previous Country Inns and Suites. Amcon recently completed a project in Park Rapids.
The Bemidji Economic Development Authority met in a closed session Monday evening to consider potential offers for the hotel. Two developers had proposed hotels that would be attached to the Sanford Center.
Cambria Suites rejected a counter-offer from the city, opening the door for Country Inn and Suites.
