Donald Willis Sellin, 74, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji, with the Rev. Derek Claypool officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born June 16, 1934, to Louis and Martha (Dehnel) Sellin in Todd County, Minn. The family moved to the Solway area and he graduated from Bemidji High School in 1953. After high school, he married Irene Silverthorn and worked on the Iron Range. They came back to Bemidji and he worked at Gambles and in the spring and summers he would go out to Kentucky and Ohio to help construct airport runways. In 1968, he married Doris Chase in Clarissa, Minn. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, he sold furniture and drove truck around the Bemidji area. In 1978, he became disabled and continued to reside in Bemidji. He enjoyed collecting cans, hunting, fishing, camping and going to garage sales. He enjoyed meeting and talking with people.
He is survived by his daughters, Debby (Ron) Beckerleg of Elk River, Minn., Darla Odland of Park Rapids and Trinket (Greg) Schilling of Sebeka, Minn.; sons, Kevin (Kim) Sellin of Bagley and Donald (Heidi) Sellin Jr. of Park Rapids; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Neva (Howard) Forseth of Bemidji and Phyllis Sukert of Bemidji; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Ellen; brothers, Verlin and Devere; and his wife, Irene Sellin.
