Child, father die after kayak overturns on Hart Lake in Hubbard County

Donald G. Stallman, 84, of Detroit Lakes, died Friday, December 26, 2008 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Donald was born to Theodore and Nicoline (Haaland) Stallman on July 6, 1924 in Ada, Minn. His family moved to Callaway when he was three years old. He grew up and received his education there. On Nov. 24, 1945 Donald married Marlys Dalve in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, and later in Fargo and Ogema.

Over the years, Donald worked in home construction and also for American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead. In 1959 the couple moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked as a self employed carpenter. Donald loved gardening and fishing.

Surviving Donald are his five daughters, Judie (David) Wood of Audubon, Lynn (Paul) Hohn of Maple Grove, Minn., Kathy (David) Kuntz of Perham, Bobbi (Rodger) Stordahl of East Grand Forks, Minn., and Debbe (Steve) Swanson of Detroit Lakes; one son, William (Connie) Stallman of Detroit Lakes;

four grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; four sisters, Marjorie Johnson and Inez Clark, both of Detroit Lakes, LaVonne (Chet) Jensen of Appleton, Wis., and Virginia (Nick) Nelson of Sioux City, Iowa.

Preceding Donald in death were his parents; wife, Marlys (July 27, 2006); three brothers, Clarence, Sylvester and Duane Stallman; three sisters, Cynthia Monroe, Mildred Maves and Ada Stallman; and a grandson, Matthew Swanson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating.

Casket bearers are Korry Morris, Steven Morris, Jefferey Davis, Jason Stordahl, Justin Stordahl, Jon Stordahl, Ryan Stallman, Brent Swanson, Patrick Swanson and Alex Swanson. Burial is at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
