Dolores Lucille Anderson was born to Arthur and Anna (Utz) Anderson on Aug. 23, 1919 near Buxton, N.D. She was raised near Luce, Minn., and attended rural country school. In 1940, Dolores married Harold Belz at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Harold worked for the railroad, which allowed the couple to experience life in several small towns in North Dakota and Minnesota.

Harold and Dolores retired in Detroit Lakes and shortly thereafter, Dolores began her volunteer work. She was instrumental in creating and organizing the Becker County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) in Detroit Lakes. From 1978-87, she served on the board of directors for Lakeland Mental Health, the Area Aging Council and the Becker County Council for the Handicapped.

She was a former member of the Detroit Lakes Police Commission and former senior board advisor for Norwest Bank, along with the Becker County Nutrition Program. Her community involvement impacted many people in the lakes area, making lives easier to live with the programs she so strongly believed in.

In 1990, Dolores proudly accepted the Becker County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award. Throughout her life, she enjoyed following politics, often voicing her concerns to area representatives. In addition to these activities, she enjoyed sewing and cooking (especially her "sticky buns"), but most importantly, spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Dolores will be remembered and missed by her children, Mary (Peter) Janzen of Winnipeg, Manitoba, James (Linda) Belz of Edmonds, Wash., William J. (Nicole) of Maple Grove, Minn., and Joseph (Mary) Belz of Pelican Rapids; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; along with one sister, Louise Colombero of California.

Preceding Dolores in death were her husband Harold (1987); two children, Michael and Kathryn; and two infant children.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 26 at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, continuing for one hour prior to services on Monday.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, April 27 at Zion Lutheran Church.

The David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories of Dolores may be shared online at www.daviddonehower.com.
