Dixie May Vollen, 73, of Bemidji died Thursday, April 3, 2014 at her home in Bemidji.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bemidji, MN, with a lunch to follow. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at a later date at the Fairview Cemetery in Erskine, MN under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Dixie was born May 24, 1940 in Bemidji, the daughter of Carl and Viola (Fink) Burgoon. She was raised and educated in Solway and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1958. She married Harold Vollen, Sr. on September 15, 1958, in Solway. She and her husband Harold owned and operated Harolds Alignment from 1965- 1998. She then became a Realtor for Century 21 from 1999- 2010. She had a kind heart and rose colored glasses to everyone she met. For many years, she enjoyed going to auctions and rummage sales with Harold and later following Harolds death, with her sister-in-law Fran. She enjoyed wood carving and ceramics. She had fun with her friends at Silver Sneakers. She and Harold loved their lake home and she continued to work on her home and landscaping throughout her retirement. She was a member of TOPS, Toastmasters, the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees and attended the Evangelical Covenant Church. She was a volunteer for many organizations over the years and was always there to help a friend.
She is survived by 2 sons- Harold Jr. "Harry" (Julie) Vollen of Bemidji, and Robert (Nancy) Vollen of Golden Valley, MN, 4 Grandchildren: Zachary and Alexander Vollen, Madeline and Camille Vollen, 4 sisters Carol (Ken) Stevens of Solway, Patricia Schussman of Bemidji, Ann (Dave) Baker of Tacoma, Washington, and Linda Tronnes of Pinewood, Minnesota, 2 brothers- Roger (Francis) Burgoon of Becida, Minnesota, and Larry (Marlys) Burgoon of Becida, Minnesota, and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, two infant granddaughters, her brother- Danny Burgoon, and sister- Icele Stai. Condolences may be left at ceasefuneralhome.com.
