The appointment is contingent on formal Bemidji School Board approval. The position was open following the retirement of Richard Anderson.

District Human Resources Director Jordan Hickman said the district conducted an internal recruitment process and considered five candidates before selecting Stefanich.

Stefanich has been employed by the Bemidji School District as an Assistant Principal at Bemidji High School since the 2004-2005 school year. Stefanich also has prior experience as a K-12 Principal with the Sebeka School District and as an elementary teacher at J.W. Smith Elementary School.
