MnDOT is especially concerned that motorists keep a safe distance from the snowplows.

Drivers are encouraged to use safe-driving practices:

- Headlights must be turned on when it is raining, snowing or sleeting.

- Adjust speed to road and weather conditions--lower speeds minimize crashes.

- Move over one lane from any stopped emergency vehicle.

- Keep a safe stopping distance between vehicles, and leave extra room between your vehicle and snowplows or other snow-removal equipment.

- Know your brakes and how they react on snow-covered roads.

- Clear snow and ice from vehicle windows, hood, headlights, brake lights and directional signals.

- Do not use cruise-control, and always use seat belts.

In addition to this storm, many roads remained closed due to flooding conditions in the western counties bordering the Red River. Closures include:

- Highway 1 at Oslo

- Highway 11 at the Robbin crossing into North Dakota

- Highway 75 from south of Perley, north to Climax

- Highway 220 west of Climax

- Highway 220 south of Alvarado

- Highway 220 from the junction with Highway 1, north to Highway 11 in Marshall County

- Highway 317 from Highway 220

Increased law enforcement is present for safety at the temporary four-way stops at U.S. Highway 2 and 220 southeast of East Grand Forks. This is a detour route due to the temporary closure of the Louis Murray Bridge in East Grand Forks. Drivers will be issued citations for speeding and rolling through stop signs.
