Did the name of the officers need to be revealed?
I must say I was a bit confused and mystified reading the paper following the standoff event last Wednesday with local law enforcement. While tragic, in what misguided light and/or right do you feel the need to publish the name of the officers involved?
If the accused have their names withheld in a criminal proceeding until charged, why in the heck are officers being named for doing their job? Especially in a situation like this one? This is not a large metropolitan area; we see our law enforcement far more often than most cities do. You, however, have just compromised and skewed every traffic stop, domestic disturbance and meet-and-greet those officers will ever do because kids and community members will stop and say, "Oh, you’re that guy."
Did you for one second think of possible reprisals against the families of the officers? No, of course you didn’t.
And to the individual at the BCA who opened his or her mouth, way to go; hello OPSEC. You all should be ashamed of yourselves and a few of you should be looking for a new line of work.
