Diamond Point reopens to the public

BEMIDJI - The gates to Diamond Point Park have been opened.

Diamond Point Park has been closed since the July 2 storm due to extensive damage from high winds.

More than 80 trees went down, many of which were large white and red pines.

Throughout the last 17 days, days, parks staff and contractors have worked long hours to remove the trees and debris and restore the park.

"We are very excited to re-open the park to the community," Marcia Larson, parks and recreation director said in a release. "Although the landscape may have changed, the park looks great and is still one of the premier parks in Bemidji."

She thanked the many volunteers that have assisted the city with cleaning up all of the city's parks following the storm.

At Diamond Point, the pavilion on the point will remain closed until it is repaired.

In the meantime, the Main Building is available for rental.

With Diamond Point reopening, Kids in Motion Day Camp will be move back into the park. The last week of camp starts Monday. Registration can be done online at www.ci.bemidji.mn.us.
