DETROIT (AP) -- It wasn't pretty or easy but the Detroit Tigers got the win.

Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered in a six-run first inning and Detroit held on for a 10-8 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.

The first-place Tigers stretched their lead in the AL Central to 5½ games over third-place Minnesota.
