Despite recent rains, burning restrictions still in effect for area
BEMIDJI -- Burning restrictions remain in place for Beltrami, Becker, Hubbard, and Wadena counties, a press release from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said Monday.
"Restrictions will remain until sufficient green up occurs," the release said.
Burning restrictions were lifted Friday in 18 central Minnesota counties because of green up moving northward, but local counties did not have their restrictions lifted.
DNR burning permits can be obtained from state and federal forestry offices, local fire wardens or online by paying an annual fee. Check the fire restrictions page on the DNR website -- www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html -- for more information on daily changes to burn restrictions.
The DNR advises anyone doing burning to keep burn piles small, have a water supply nearby, and stay with the fire until it is completely out. If the fire escapes, the property owners is responsible for the damage and suppression costs, the DNR said in the release.
